Mr. President

I shared our state cards, so now I am sharing our president cards. They are very much the same in format: the girls wanted rounded corners and my boy wanted the “regular” ones. So here they are in both forms.

If you download them please consider leaving a comment to let me know they worked for you. That’s not asking too much is it? Remember, they are free.

TOG and Geography

TOG and Geography

Specifically, the United States and the growing State Card Bank. As TOG suggests creating a bank of cards with state info on them I have created our own version. I liked the cards that come in the curriculum for copying, but for two things: 1) they were an odd size and I wanted them to be an easy 4×6 inch standard so that it would be easy to laminate with some prefab laminate cards and 2) I wanted to add the state capital on the list. I am not sure why TOG does not have this on there. I know that these have changed for some states throughout the years, but so have the flags.

Here is a photo of the front of the cards (blurred and bad angle and a glare, sorry). I did a quick mock-up for example.

Here is a photo of the back of the cards (also blurred and bad angle and a glare, sorry. again.)

I spent some time playing around in Publisher or Photoshop (whichever I was in the mood for at the time) and created our own version of these cards. I saved them as PDFs so that they could easily be shared here and printing them would be easy too. I have two versions of the cards. My girls wanted a nicer smooth looking card so I made some with rounded corners and then some standard square cornered cards. Both measure 4×6 and fit nicely in the prefab laminate pouches that can be found at most office supply stores; I think I have seen these at Wal*mart and at Target as well.

An apology

I just wanted to get on here and offer an apology to all the TOG Blogroll users. Back in mid-July my computer crashed and I had to mail it off to have it fixed. I was without my computer and all my files, contacts, and info for about two weeks. Right about the time I got my computer back, but before I got all my files reinstalled and back up I witnessed the first signs of miscarrying our baby.

I am making no excuses, but I did want to explain why I have not been responding to the requests for changes and joining the blogroll. I am just now crawling out from under the deep fog in which I have been living. This has been more difficult than I ever could have imagined. I am slowly getting my brain functioning again and all my files and e-mails restored. I know I am not the only one who has ever suffered through a loss like this, but it has been a very dark and lonely place.

I just wanted to reassure everyone that I was going to get to all those e-mails and files throughout this week. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

p.s. - if anyone would like to read about this journey you can start here (or here).
